PDN.1852 - Sub Bass Driver
- Lightweight neodymium motor system.
- Heavy duty cast aluminium frame for increased rigidity.
- Aggressive bass response.
- A B/L in excess of 30 T/m for fast accurate lows.
- Dual silicone suspension.
- Warm tonal sound.
- Appropriate for applications as diverse as scoop bins, conventional reflex cabinets and horn loaded systems.
Many of our customers in the roots/ reggae sectors favour the PD.1852 for its warm, growling, aggressive bass performance style in scoop bin / horn enclosures. Enquiries for a lightweight format driver possessing these same characteristics, the PDN.1852 was born.
The impressive performance and specifications of the two models are virtually identical, with the exception that the PDN.1852 only weighs 11.5 Kg, an over 50% reduction in weight versus the PD.1852! The PDN.1852 uses an FEA optimised, compact neodymium motor system configuration that allows for more efficient management of the electro magnetic flux and greatly reduces stray magnetic fields. This results in a smaller magnet providing the same power handling capability as the much larger ferrite based PD.1852. The motor system configuration and rear vent plate design have also been developed to allow effective heat dissipation and airflow around the 5-inch, in-house wound, copper voice coil which offers the potential for increased power handling and greatly reduced power compression effects.
The unit has a rated power handling of 1000w (AES) and exhibits an average sensitivity of 98dB across its usable frequency range of 35Hz to 2kHz. Thanks to the high performance, UK manufactured, dual silicon suspension, cone and surround, the unit displays exceptional mechanical stability, control and linearity with an Xmax of 12mm and BL force factor in excess of 30 T/m for producing fast accurate lows. This and other electro-dynamic parameters combine to form a low distortion, versatile and dynamic driver. Although intended for scoop bin and horn loaded systems, the unit also performs well in conventional reflex designs.
*2.83V. Half space response measured in a 975 Litre sealed Enclosure.
Power compression is the reduction of sensitivity at the specified power. Higher power ratings do not necessarily give a proportionate increase in SPL therefore the maximum SPL of the driver may significantly exceed that of other manufacturers with high power ratings. ** Distortion is measured at 10% of the rated power (AES Standard).
1. AES Standard (35 to 350 Hz)
2. AES Recommended Practice.
3. Thiele - Small Parameters follow a 1000 Watt preconditioning period.
Please note that frequency response measurements are supplied for comparison purposes only and are not a measure of the low frequency performance which may be achievable in a fully optimised system.
